Have I ever mentioned that I am a Potterhead (a crazy one indeed)? (For you who are not familiar with this term, a Potterhead is an awesome and cool person who is a fan of Harry Potter and knows every single detail and fact about him.) So, a couple days ago I was re-reading for the 100th time the second book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, written by the legendary author J.K. Rowling. While fervently reading, I ran into this quote: “It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.” That was the moment when I decided that this time I am going to deviate a little bit from giving “lectures” on following our passion and focus on the topic of making choices.
I truly believe that it is achievable for everyone to build a life that makes us happy. As I mentioned before, no one would like to be stuck in a job which he/she hates and which will make his/her life miserable. Thus, you make choices to change your life in such a way that is fulfilling to you. Friend, remember that fulfillment may come in several different ways. It is all about making mindful choices and knowing well those choices.
“When I was a little girl, I was always dreaming to become a famous singer of course, but sometimes following your passion is not easy. You have to think about the consequences of your choice, you have to know your choice perfectly well. Of course, I still persuade people to pursue their dreams, but sometimes it is not bad to let it go,” says Russian sophomore Nailya Yusupova.
As most of people of planet Earth, you might choose to stay in a job which you do not mostly like because you like the benefits of the job more than the dissatisfaction itself. Well, the truth is that that can also work, but only if you DO understand and accept your choice.
“Even though I studied for many years in a Russian Musical High School, it was my choice to continue the path of future here at AUBG. My parents totally supported me. They respected my choice.”
Now think, if we just decide to choose another path, would it change the reality that we have come to know? There were days when I always thought of “hmm…what if?” When you have to make a choice, we try to find the best one obviously. There are times when you regret the choice you have taken and you wish time would go back. But, as my mom says, life is odd in that way: how our reality could be something else right now if only we acted differently during a situation.
“That one choice may change your life so drastically. Sometimes, I wish I would turn back time and see what would have happened if I had chosen to follow the path of music.”
Could one choice be enough to change your entire life? Bear in mind that every time we make a choice to do one thing, we make a parallel choice not to do something else. Therefore, try to know what you are choosing. Make the decision consciously! Then go make it happen.
Once again- Choose wisely!
P.S: Happy the day of Happiness. Be happy, happy & happier!
